What we love to do in London at Christmas!

What we love to do in London at Christmas!

The countdown is on and there's nowhere quite like London at Christmas. The city's famous streets, destination shops and iconic landmarks are transformed into a mass of twinkling lights, festive stalls and holiday fun.

The team at Tours International love creating bespoke Christmas itineraries for groups. Here are our top tips for making the most of London's seasonal sparkle:

Lana, CEO, says, ‘I really look forward to seeing all the Christmas lights every year. And I love visiting the big department stores, such as Fortnum and Mason and Selfridges, and browsing the lovely Christmas sections. A carol concert at St Paul’s Cathedral is another favourite, it’s wonderful singing all the carols in such stunning surroundings.’

Ralph, our Director, recommends 'Hamleys in Regent Street if you're shopping for children or grandchildren. The  Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square is always great to see and I enjoy listening to the carol singing around it. And you can't beat a traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings!'

Justine, who works with our French-speaking markets, loves ‘all the Christmas markets, especially Covent Garden and Southbank. I love the festive, cheerful atmosphere in all the pubs. A London bus tour at night to see all the Christmas lights is fun or a festive themed afternoon tea on a vintage double decker.’

Ellie, our Group Travel Executive, says Winter Wonderland is well worth a visit. 'I always go every year - it feels super Christmassy, plus we love the rides! I also love walking around Oxford Street and Regent Street and seeing all the Christmas lights lit up and the Christmas displays in the shops. I love any of the Christmas ice rinks (museum ones, Winter Wonderland, even the rooftop ones!).

Erica in Marketing really enjoys ‘visiting the royal palaces, like Kensington Palace and the Tower of London, to see all their decorations and exhibitions from Christmases past. And I always watch something Christmassy in the West End, like The Nutcracker or A Christmas Carol. I also love the smells of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts when you’re walking around in the cold!’
